I would like to make everyone aware of an outstanding award, presented at the closing ceremonies of the District Rally.  Our member, Joyous Bowen, was awarded a document, retiring her GWRRA number.  She is the first person in Wisconsin to have their number officially retired.  She is 86 years old, if I remember correctly, and will not have to do anything to retain her membership or status.  She holds the title of Life Grand Master.  An accomplishment that few of us will ever see.  Our chapter congratulates you on this supreme honor.  We were honored to be in attendance to see your presentation and acceptance of this great honor.  May you continue to ride with honor.  Congratulations Joyous.  Outstanding!

I was called and informed that our member and good friend, Don Herzberg, passed away.  The Chapter and I wish to express our sympathies and condolences to Joyce and their family.  We know he is going to be missed by you and all of us.  We are here to support you, so rely on us as you need.

To all those who came and participated in the memorial ride, thank you very much for showing your support for Don and Joyce.  Between 50 and 70 bikes participated.  Fantastic!

Following is information on motel reservations for our fall color ride on September 25 and 26.  There are 15 double queen rooms reserved under Chapter K or Don Connors.  They will be held until August 25, the cost is $79.99 per room and amenities are: pool, sauna, breakfast and wireless internet.  The phone number is 563-582-3752.  The address is: Heartland West, 4025 McDonald Drive Dubuque, IA 52001.  If you don’t make the deadline, you can still try to make reservations there.  It has been decided that we will not do our annual event-planning calendar at this time.  Just enjoy the ride and the weekend!

The Chapter Educator finally got out to some group rides.  I finally know what they are all about.  I did enjoy myself.

There will be another ride to Rockton for the charcoal chicken cookout.  The date unknown as of August 10.

Since I see all different kinds of gear being worn, I am going to spell out the recommended equipment recognized by GWRRA.  They are: 1) over the ankle boots or shoes, 2) long pants, 3) long sleeved shirt or coat, 4) helmet, 5) glasses, goggles or face shield, and 6) full-fingered gloves.
